The plan is to leave Boone NC around 0900 hrs after a wonderful breakfast with my family, then head south on the BRP (I have to get video of riding the viaduct on Pearl) then head south on hwy 221 after Grandfather mountain, and on into Asheville.

From there, I’m riding to Deals Gap and make a run on the dragon and collect my stickers, then head to the campsite near Chattanooga TN.  Highlights for the day will be:
1. The Linville Viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway
2. Tail of the Dragon
3. Cherohala Skyway

In reality, there is much more great riding in the area, but I’m hitting I-40 and Hwy 74 to save some time. Hwy 221 between Linville and I-40 and Hwy 28 by Fontana Dam are top shelf roads as well.

I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve posted anything. So much life has happened: Changed jobs, lost my Jeep, got a car, lost the car, got another Jeep, got a motorcycle (YES!!!!), Daughter is getting married, other daughter is finishing up college, found out I kinda like IPAs, etc. Funny how I summed up, what? 2 years in 2 sentences? And those things are the highlights?  Maybe I need more excitement in my life. Oh yeah, I started playing pool as well and ended up going to Vegas. How about them apples?

I’m super excited about my motorcycle (2014 VFR Deluxe). The Deluxe just means it has heated hand grips, ABS traction control, and a couple of other goodies. I’ve been riding motorcycles since before I was in high school and life is just, well, different on two wheels.

Anyway, more posts to come, lots of pictures.

What a crazy weekend! My great nephew Matt Edholm turned 21 and we got to celebrate with him, we got pounded with snow, went to see the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, AND was able to witness the thumping Denver took from Seattle in the Superbowl.

The snow: It started snowing Thursday afternoon and literally, did not stop until Sunday morning. we ended up with close to 11 inches (as measured from the patio table on the back deck). The temperature hovered around 20 ~ 23 the whole time and very little wind if any. It makes for a manageable snow event. There were accidents on the road, but no one got stranded, there was a power outage, but not in our area. It made going to see the Hobbit movie on Friday night quite enjoyable as you didn’t have the throngs of people; there were very few people there and we got to pick our seats.

Matt turned 21 on Friday, and came to the house Saturday morning for a southern breakfast (grits, eggs, biscuits, bacon, etc.) cooked by Robin. Matt brought over a few board games that he wanted to play, so we got started on setting up Axis and Allies 1914 (WWI). We only got through 1.5 turns (they take a long time) before Skip came by and we headed out to Buffalo Wild Wings to meet some of Matt’s buddies from Carson. We had a really good lunch/supper there, then came home to play the board game of civilization. It was 0100 before we finished up, so Matt and company crashed at the house, then got up for church the next morning. We all met at Chad’s for the superbowl party/disaster (I was rooting for Denver).

All in all, it was a jam packed weekend, but a good one. I am proud of my nephew, he is representing our family quite well.

So many things have happened/are happening this week, it feels like complete chaos. However, it all pales in comparison to the forest fire that threatened my brother’s home in Tennessee. We got the call Saturday evening that a forest fire had burned over 2500 acres on the mountain he lives on. Robin and I immediately prayed for my brother’s protection along with his property. I can tell you that I had a peace about the whole thing and told my brother that I had a feeling his stuff would not be touched. It was nothing short of a miracle when not ONE building on his property was damaged by the fire. He has a storage shed, a workshop, a wood shed, and a carport and yet NOTHING was touched.

Follow all that excitement with my youngest daughter’s birthday, my oldest daughter acting like the freshman in college that she is, Thanksgiving and all the details, this week’s event calendar is full. I am denying any and all requests for further events this week.
